What Does An Outline For An Essay Look Like: An Example


Most people get overwhelmed when they are about to start doing the outline for their essay but don’t look at it as a stressful process but as one that will help you in the end writing your essay.  The outline is there to help you put all of you research together and to help you write your essay.  Having all this information in place before you start you essay making the essay writing process go faster.  Outlines also help you see where you can improve on your research on the topic.

4 Things Your Essay Should Have

  • The first thing you want to do is identify the topic of your essay.  This can be a sentence or phrase at the top of your outline.
  • It should have all the main points that you are going to cover in your essay.
  • Know what your first point you are going to cover in your essay.
  • When you create your main points, make sure that you have information to support those points.  This is why an outline can help you find holes in your essay.

This is just a general outline that I made up so you can see the correct way to write one.  Remember that your outline is very flexible and you can change it as you go because of new research or you found a subtopic that didn’t fit in your essay.  That is why you do outlines for your essays to see what can be better for your final project.  Another thing that you might want to put on your outline is the resources you use for your research, putting them on your outline will have you recall them later for your reference page.
